U.S.Army M270 MLRS

The M270 MLRS is a highly automated Self-Propelled, Loader/Launcher system. It can be used in shoot-and-scoot tactics: Firing its rockets rapidly, then moving away to avoid counter-battery fire.

One launcher firing twelve rockets can completely blanket one square kilometer with sub-munitions. For this reason, the MLRS is sometimes referred to as the "Grid Square Removal System" (metric maps are usually divided up into 1 km grids).

The launcher has a highly automated self-loading system allowing it to quickly reload interchangeable rocket pods from supply vehicles such as the HEMTT.

The highly detailed 3D model is from Mesh Factory. It came in the Desert Storm sand camouflage but to make it more interesting I re-textured it in the NATO three color scheme in MudBox. The official U.S.Army technical manual TB43-209 for camouflage painting was used to accurately "paint" the model.
